Hypnotist shows have been a popular form of entertainment for many years. With the rise of reality TV and public interest in hypnosis, the question of whether these shows are real or staged is a common one. In this article, we will explore the truth behind hypnotist shows and the different types of hypnosis used in these performances.

First, it is important to understand that hypnosis is a real phenomenon that has been scientifically researched and documented. When a person is hypnotized, they are in a state of heightened suggestibility and are more open to suggestion. This can lead to changes in perception, behaviour, and thought patterns.

However, it is also important to note that the type of hypnosis used in hypnotist shows is often different from the type of hypnosis used in medical or therapeutic settings. The hypnosis used in these shows is often referred to as “stage hypnosis” and is used for entertainment purposes.

In stage hypnosis shows, the hypnotist uses various techniques to induce a state of hypnosis in the participants. These techniques can include eye fixation, rapid eye movement, and guided imagery. Once the participants are in a state of hypnosis, the hypnotist will give them suggestions to perform various actions, such as clucking like a chicken or dancing.

It is important to note that these actions are not actually being performed against the participant’s will, but rather they are being performed because they believe the hypnotist’s suggestions. In other words, the participant is willingly participating in the show.

Sometimes Stage Hypnosis shows are called Comedy Hypnosis Shows. In these shows, the hypnotist uses hypnosis for comedic purposes, rather than for entertainment. The hypnotist may give the participants suggestions to perform silly or humorous actions, such as pretending to be a race car driver or acting like a famous celebrity.

While these shows can be entertaining, it is important to remember that they are not representative of the true power and potential of hypnosis. In a medical or therapeutic setting, hypnosis can be used to help people overcome anxiety, quit smoking, and manage pain.

In conclusion, hypnotist shows are a form of entertainment that use stage hypnosis and comedy hypnosis to create a captivating performance. While these shows can be entertaining, they should not be taken as a representation of clinical hypnotherapy and potential of using hypnosis to help change ones behaviour long term.
